Our Story

We're not your teachers.
We're your senpai.

Nihongo Senpai was born from a simple idea: learning Japanese should feel like being guided by a friend, not sitting in a classroom.

Our journey began in November 2024 — a passion project for beginners who wanted to explore Japanese language and culture in a fun, approachable way. What started as educational content on social media grew into a global community of over 300,000 learners, anime fans, and Japan enthusiasts across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

The name comes from two Japanese words: nihongo (Japanese language) and senpai (someone with more experience who guides and supports others). We don't see ourselves as teachers standing at the front of a classroom — we're your senpai, a friend who's walked the path before you.

Today, we're expanding beyond the digital world and bringing a little piece of Japan directly to your mailbox. In an age dominated by AI and instant communication, snail mail offers something rare: anticipation, connection, and a tangible memory you can hold in your hands.

We hope every postcard feels like a little love letter from Japan — a small spark of joy in your day.

With love,

The Idea Behind It

Why a postcard?

Our postcard subscription was created from a belief that some things are worth preserving.

Something worth waiting for

In an age dominated by AI, social media, and instant communication, snail mail offers something increasingly rare: anticipation, connection, and a tangible memory you can hold in your hands.

A little piece of Japan

Each postcard is carefully chosen to bring you closer to Japan — its culture, scenery, traditions, and everyday beauty. More than just a postcard, it's a small reminder to slow down and appreciate the moment.

Supporting real artists

Every design comes from a Japanese artist we've handpicked — giving their work a spotlight and a chance to reach people around the world who wouldn't have found it otherwise.
